It’s just what I see ….. another slice of my world, this past week.

Qatar National Day was celebrated on Saturday Dec 18th and the pride of the country was at a peak as Qatar was recently chosen to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

Banners were hung on buildings, cars were spray-painted, flags were EVERYWHERE in the city!  A parade was held and a massive fire-works display took place Saturday night.  We were unfortunately busy so didn’t attend, but it appeared to have been enjoyed by everyone in the country – Nationals and ex-pats alike!  Well done, Qatar!

DH and I went to a different kind of party on the Thursday night.  A beach party with Bryan Adams  at the InterCon Hotel!  We went to his concert when he played here in 2006, but this time was even better as the weather was perfect and the beach made for a great venue.

The stage was still being constructed 3 hrs before the concert was to start.... tight timing!

All the way from Vancouver, Canada!

The stage may not have been ready....but his wardrobe was good to go!

as were the guitars

It was fab - about 4000 in attendance I think

Early morning sunrise, from our hotel room. You can see the stage on the left

Ahhh, breakfast outside, including a strong cup of coffee

View from the hotel towards the downtown

No one is on the beach so early in the morning!

Yes, there is Christmas in Doha! Tree in the lobby of the InterCon Hotel

and another in the fitness area

Poinsettia display in the lobby

It's looking all cosy back at home as well...

I picked up a traditional candle holder in Sweden last summer. A touch of my family's heritage at Christmas time...

Same with the one on the far right

What could be better than DD's best friend who's come to visit for a few days...

Except that she is leaving tomorrow to continue on her journey and meet up with her family in England for Christmas.

So, all good things must come to and end.  Until next time….

(as always, just click on a picture for a closer look)

I’ll leave you with this clip I made at the concert…. at least what I was able to record until security came by and told me to turn my camera off.
