What is yoga?

Patanjali, author of the Yoga Sutras would say “chitta vritti nirodaha“, “to calm the fluctuations of the mind” or “to steady the mind”.

Most of what Patanjali references is about our mental experience and not the physical postures (asanas) which have become the focal point of most modern, or Westernized yoga practice.  The Yoga Sutras explain how to cultivate one’s path to samadhi, which is the last part of the eight-limbed path in ashtanga yoga: yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dhyana, dhyana and samadhi.

I’d like to share this “One-Moment Meditation” I came upon today.  The video is 5 minutes long and includes a 1-minute meditation. Besides, it’s rather cute!

Perhaps it can help you to calm the fluctuations of your mind.  Although only one minute, it’s a start.

Tomorrow, Day 21 and still going strong!
