I mentioned to our kids I saw a job advertised in the newspaper I thought I might apply for.  It sounded interesting, I think I have all the qualifications and it offers a highly competitive compensation package, which is always a good thing.

My daughter immediately replied “don’t get ahead of yourself this time.”

I asked her what she meant.

“Well, you know the last one you applied for ….you didn’t even get a call back from them.”

She’s right.  I have only applied for one job since leaving my last position about 5 months ago.  Again, the job sounded interesting.  I thought I had all the skills and experience they were looking for. In fact, I thought I would be a shoe-in for it.  Within the advertisement they asked for an ‘organizational genius’.  Well, I figure that’s one of my strongest skills so on my CV, right under my name, I put “Organizational Genius” as a bit of a laugh.

It wasn’t something I would normally do.  Always the serious one, that’s me. The ad said this position would be to join a ‘young, dynamic and creative team’ so in this case I decided to show a little bit of humor.  I don’t know if they didn’t like my sense of humor, didn’t think I was the right fit or what,  but I didn’t so much as get a call for an interview.  Humph!

I’ll take my daughter’s advice and try not to get ahead of myself this time.  I’ll apply for the job but leave out any attempt at humor.  Though near the end of the ad it states they are looking for someone who is ‘unflappable in a fast paced environment’.  Somewhat tempting……
